Security on high alert as rush in cattle markets intensifies

LAHORE: With Eidul Azha approaching, Punjab Police has issued a high alert and tightened security as cattle markets across the province witness heavy crowds.
According to a police spokesperson, over 4,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 230 cattle markets in the province.
In Lahore alone, 1,000 police officers and personnel are stationed at 11 designated cattle markets. Strict security arrangements have also been made in other districts.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab said that comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure the safety of both sellers and buyers.

He directed that no cattle market should be set up without prior approval from the district administration. Strict legal action will be taken against illegal markets and unauthorized sale points.
The IG further stated that 284 patrolling teams, including Dolphin Squad and Police Response Units, will ensure round-the-clock surveillance around cattle markets to prevent any untoward incidents.
According to the spokesperson: in Sheikhupura Region: 200 personnel deployed at 26 markets, 600 personnel at 41 markets in Gujranwala, over 250 personnel deployed at 15 markets in Rawalpindi region, 200 personnel deployed at 24 markets in Sargodha region, over 600 personnel deployed at 19 markets in Faisalabad, over 400 personnel deployed at 26 markets in Multan, over 200 personnel deployed at 11 markets in Sahiwal, over 300 personnel deployed at 35 markets in Bahawalpur and over 200 personnel deployed at 22 markets in DG Khan
Punjab Police has urged the public to purchase animals only from officially designated markets and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or helpline.
