Senate passes resolution, urges ECP to hold elections on time

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Wednesday adopted a resolution calling for the upcoming general election as per schedule and without further delay.
The resolution was moved by Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed.
The resolution urges the electoral body to conduct the general elections within the designated timeframe given under Article 224 of the Constitution.
Furthermore, the resolution highlights that the caretaker government is designated to oversee the election process and only make decisions related to routine matters.
“The House also demands state institutions to provide all the possible assistance to the ECP for conducting elections on time, fulfilling its constitutional responsibility,” it added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday confirmed that he will send a summary to the president today, seeking the dissolution of the National Assembly.
