Senior civil judge, lawyer shot dead in brazen attack near Nowshera

PESHAWAR: Senior Civil Judge Admin Mardan Hayat Khan and lawyer Khalid Khan were shot dead by unidentified assailants near Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police, the tragic incident occurred on the motorway near Nowshera, where masked assailants opened fire, killing Hayat Khan and his friend and lawyer Khalid Khan, on the spot.

Police said the attack took place when Hayat Khan was travelling from Rashakai Interchange to Peshawar in his official vehicle.

While he was travelling, masked attackers indiscriminately fired at their car on the motorway, resulting in the instant deaths of both individuals, police said.

Hayat Khan had previously served as a senior civil judge in Haripur, Abbottabad, and Havelian.

Police said an investigation is under way and checkpoints have been set up in the area to trace the fleeing attackers.

Senior police officials are continuing efforts to arrest the culprits, they said.
