Shafqat Ali Khan appointed new Foreign Office spokesperson

ISLAMABAD: Senior diplomat Shafqat Ali Khan has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Foreign Office.

He will be replacing Mumtaz Zehra Baloch, who has been named Pakistan’s Ambassador to France.

Currently serving as Additional Secretary for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shafqat Ali Khan has previously held the position of Ambassador to Russia and Poland.

WHO IS SAHFQAT ALI KHAN?

Mr Shafqat Ali Khan was born in 1969. He got his higher education from King College, London, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and Uppsala University, Sweden.

Appointed as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Russian Federation in March 2020;
Appointed as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Republic of Poland in July 2017;
Director General (Europe), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad (2016-2017);
Diplomatic Adviser to the Speaker National Assembly (2014-2015);
Deputy Permanent Representative, Pakistan Mission to the United Nation in Geneva (2010-2013);
Counsellor (Political and Strategic Affairs), Embassy of Pakistan, Beijing (2007-2010);
In 2001-2006, served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director (Human Rights), .Deputy Director (Foreign Secretary’s Office), and Deputy Director (India);
Second Secretary, Pakistan Mission to the United Nations in New York (1998-2001);
Joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan (1993).
Mr Shafqat Ali Khan is married with a son and a daughter.
