Shahid Khaqan not to take part in elections

KARACHI: Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, speaking outside the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court in Karachi on Wednesday announced his decision not to participate in the upcoming general elections. He expressed frustration with the NAB and called for a justice system based on fairness and transparency.

Abbasi questioned the motives behind his five-year legal case, which culminated in his acquittal by the High Court earlier today. He demanded accountability for former NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal, who he accused of fabricating charges against him and other political figures.

“The country cannot function with a justice system built on injustice,” Abbasi asserted. “We must choose: either the country will be governed by the rule of law, or by NAB.” He cited the example of other developing nations, emphasizing that progress and stability are contingent upon a just and impartial legal system.

Abbasi further expressed his concern regarding the current political climate and suggested the possibility of postponing the elections to ensure a more fair and transparent process. However, he stressed the importance of holding elections eventually, emphasizing that power should not be pursued for personal gain.
