LAHORE: Shalimar Express bound to Karachi derailed near Shahdra station on Friday morning. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the site.

As per details, three bogies of the Shalimar Express going to Karachi from Lahore derailed near Shahdra.

Rescue teams have been dispatched.

No loss of life or injuries has been reported in the incident., according to a Pakistan Railways spokesperson.

Train service on the affected track has been temporarily stopped, and rescue work is in progress.

CEO Railways Aamir Ali Baloch has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

INITIAL INVESTIGATIONS COMPLETED

The Shalimar Express accident near Shahdara was caused by the driver’s negligence, according to the initial investigation.

DS Railway Muhammad Hanif Gul stated that the train was moving at a fast speed when the accident occurred. As per standard operating procedures (SOPs), the train’s speed should have been limited to 15 km/h.

Due to high speed, three coaches of the Shalimar Express derailed, the report revealed. Hanif Gul added that applying the brakes on timely could have minimized the damage.

The derailment also caused damage to the track’s sleepers. The investigation into the train driver’s role is still ongoing.

DS Railway further mentioned that the sleepers used on the track are imported.
