Shehbaz Sharif discusses bilateral ties with Starmer

New York: The economy, terrorism, and climate change were among the things discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday.
The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
PM Shehbaz informed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer about Pakistan’s strives in implementing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) tax reforms and expanding the tax base, efforts the country is making to stablilise and develop the economy.

He also stressed the sacrifices Pakistan has made in the fight against terrorism. Shehbaz Sharif stated that terrorism is a global issue that requires collective international action. In August, on the backdrop of militant attacks across Balochistan, PM Shehbaz stated that Pakistan’s armed forces would be given all the necessary resources to root out terrorism.
PM Shehbaz also informed Starmer about the challenges Pakistan is facing as a result of climate change. In March, PM Shehbaz ordered the formation of a committee to identify problems related to climate change so they could be effectively tackled.

Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the United Kingdom as the third-largest investor in Pakistan before discussing the multitude of projects and investment opportunities present in the country.
He reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, citing the large amounts of Pakistanis residing in the United Kingdom and the role they play in the development of both countries.
