Sindh gov’t launches special ‘Azadi train’ for Independence Day


The Sindh government inaugurated a special 'Azadi train' as port of the province’s Independence Day activities.

KARACHI: The Sindh government inaugurated a special ‘Azadi train’ as part of the province’s Independence Day activities.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon formally launched the service on August 13 at Karachi Cantt Station by cutting the ribbon and participating in a cake-cutting ceremony.

The Azadi train will operate on the route previously known as the Thar Desert Train Safari but was renamed to mark the Independence Day under the theme “Jashn-e-Azadi—Ma’raka-e-Haq”. The train departed from Karachi and is scheduled to return on August 14 after visiting several districts across Sindh.

The route of the train covers Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and will reach its final desitnation at Zero Point in Tharparkar. At each station, passengers will distribute national flags to local residents in an effort to promote patriotism and national unity among the public.

The first day’s journey will conclude in Umerkot at Chhor Cantt, where a musical event will be held at Parchi Ji Veri for passengers and the local community.

On the second day, the train will stop at the Marvi Station in Khokhrapar. There, a flag hoisting ceremony will take place alongside a cake-cutting event to mark the celebrations before the train will begin its return trip to Karachi.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said that the project aims to spread joy and parotitic spirit across the province during the Independence Day.

He stated the initiative also sends a message of peace and unity.

The event reportedly engaged a wide range of participants including civil society members, political leaders, artists and cultural figures who take part in the journey and associated activities.

The Azadi train is expected to continue as an annual feature of Independence Day festivities.
