Singer Quratulain Balouch injured in bear attack

SKARDU: Pakistani singer Quratulain Balouch was injured in a bear attack last night in the Bara Pani area while camping in Deosai National Park.

According to medical officials, both of her arms were wounded by the bear’s claws.

Baltistan Police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad Shuja told HUM News English that the Humsafar-famed singer was camping with several others in the Bara Pani area of the park when the incident occurred. Shuja said the bear ran away after people from nearby camps made noise.

He added that QB was given first aid by tourist police at the site and was later shifted to the Regional Headquarters Hospital, Skardu, where a surgeon treated her wounds.

The spokesperson said the area is designated for camping and police as well as wildlife staff are present, though at times bears do attack people.

She was shifted to the Regional Hospital in Skardu, where doctors provided treatment and later discharged her.

In a statement, Gilgit-Baltistan Tourist Police said they responded swiftly to an incident at Bara Pani in Deosai last night, where a bear suddenly attacked the tent of renowned singer Qurat-ul-Ain Baloch. The statement said that thanks to their prompt action, the singer was rescued and the bear was chased away. After receiving first aid at the camp, she was safely transported to Skardu.

“We urge all tourists to exercise caution, choose suitable campsites, and follow the expert guidance of Tourist Police Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience,” the statement added.

While talking to media, an RHQ doctor said that QB sustained wounds from the bear’s claws and teeth on both arms. The doctor noted that the bite wounds were deep. He said the singer was after treatment, as she was TT and rabies injections along with other medications.

Following the  bear attack on the camp of a renowned singer at Bara Pani and due to increased bear activity in the current season private camping has been immediately banned in the area.

According to a notification issued by the Range Forest Officer, Deosai National Park, the ban will remain in effect during September and October 2025.

During this period, only government staff camps and approved accommodation facilities (hotels/guest houses) will be permitted. The notification said  that the decision has been taken to protect tourists and prevent human–wildlife conflict. Staff have been instructed to enforce the ban and inform visitors at entry points.

Quratulain Balouch, a Pakistani-American singer-songwriter popularly known as QB or the “Humsafar Girl” for her famous track Woh Humsafar Tha from the TV serial Humsafar, is currently touring Skardu to experience the region’s natural beauty.

According to the wild life department, the Himalayan Brown Bear is one of the endangered species of Deosai National Park, Pakistan. According to recent surveys, only about 75–80 individuals remain in the wild here, making this population both precious and vulnerable.

Himalayan Brown Bears are one of the most timid Bears. The attacks of them on Humans are almost non existent. But there are some Bears on the roof of the world that have become so bold that they have started to raid campsites, fearless of humans.
