Six drown as boat capsizes in Jhelum River

MANDI BAHUDDIN: Six people, including women and children, drowned when a boat sank in the river Jhelum in Mandi Bahauddin on Thursday.

In Malkwal Tehsil of Mandi Bahauddin, the boat was carrying passengers from Piranwala to Noorpur Piran with 30 people on board.

According to rescue officials, the incident occurred when the boat, which was also carrying a car and a motorcycle, sank due to being overweight while crossing the river.

The deceased belonged to the same family and hailed from Piranwala district Jhelum. The ages of the deceased women are said to be between 40 and 50 while the children are 2 to 8 years old.

Rescue officials say that seven people have been shifted to Malkwal Hospital in critical condition. Operation is on to rescue other persons.
