MULTAN: Six people have been killed and more than 25 injured in a gas tanker explosion in Fahad Town area of Multan.

According to rescue officials, the LPG tanker caught fire due to leaking gas. The fire engulfed the nearby houses.

As soon as the incident was reported, rescue teams promptly reached the site and, after a five-hour operation, brought the fire under control.

According to rescue officials, the fire spread to some houses in Basti Hamidpur due to the tanker explosion.

Several homes were damaged, and roofs collapsed. Livestock in some houses were also affected by the blaze.

Over 16 vehicles participated in the rescue operation, and the cooling process is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, an emergency has been declared at Nishtar Hospital. Under the leadership of Emergency Director Dr. Zahid, additional beds and staff have been arranged. Hospital sources reported that five injured persons succumbed to their injuries during transportation, and their bodies have also been brought to the hospital.

Rescue sources stated that 28 injured were shifted from Nishtar Emergency to the Pak-Italian Burn Unit.

Two patients with minor injuries were discharged after initial medical aid.

Currently, 26 patients are being treated at the Pak-Italian Modern Burn Unit of Nishtar Hospital. These include 14 women, 3 children, and 9 men.

Rescue officials fear the death toll may rise further. The situation will remain under control until the cooling process is completed.

Electricity and gas supply in the area has been suspended as a precautionary measure after the gas tanker explosion in Multan, though Multan-Muzaffargarh Road has now been reopened for traffic.

President, PM condole loss of life

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over the death of six people and injuries to several others in an explosion of LPG bowser in Multan.

In separate statements on Monday, the President and Prime Minister commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

They prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the incident.

The Prime Minister directed to find out the reasons of the explosion and check such incidents in the future.
