Smog: Punjab imposes strict penalties on market violators of 8 PM closure order

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken strict action against shopkeepers violating the orders of market closure by 8 PM. The provincial government had issued the standard operating procedures (SOPs) notification as part of the drive to control worsening smog situation.

As per reports, 56 shops, including three barbeque points, have been sealed for violation of SOPs.

Violating shops were also fined Rs 50,000. Two shops were fined for violating closing time, and 22 shops were sealed for violation of working hours across.

Lahore Assistant Commissioner sealed three restaurants, while 10 restaurants were fined for serving food outside.

Three shops in Raiwand, 10 shops on Main GT Road and Shahdara in Ravi, nine shops in Cantonment, six shops Saddar, and three shops in Wagah were sealed for violation of working hours.

The government has also issued directives for the schools and colleges to be shut down with students continuing their academics through online classes.

There is also a crackdown in progress against smoke emitting vehicles in the province.
