KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday directed authorities to expedite the solarisation of government offices across the province.

Chairing a meeting in Karachi, Shah emphasised the significant reduction in electricity expenses that solar power conversion would bring to government buildings.

The Chief Minister instructed Energy Minister Nasir Shah to prioritise and speed up these efforts starting from the new financial year.

In a related development, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced a collaborative project with the World Bank to solarise three major roads in Karachi, including Sharah-e-Faisal. The Rs1 billion project will also cover Shahrah-e-Iran and Marine Drive in the Clifton area.

The mayor disclosed that this initiative will be followed by the solarisation of 103 additional roads and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s head office.

Mayor Wahab highlighted that this project would not only save electricity but also allow funds to be redirected towards other development works in Sindh.
