Local minister, Zeeshan Rafique, chaired a meeting at the Civil secretariat to assess the progress of the Solid Waste Outsourcing Programme.

He noted the need for a comprehensive and sustainable sanitation framework to cater to Punjab’s expanding population.

The new model is designed to enhance waste collection, transportation and disposal, contributing to the cleaner and healthier urban environment.

The initiative involves partnering with private sector companies to manage waste collection and disposal operations. The strategy is expected to bring in expertise, and operational efficiency, which are often lacking in traditional public sector waste management systems.

By engaging private firms, the Punjab government hopes to relieve burden on itself and improve waste management services to the international standards.

The minister assured the residents that the government was committed to providing adequate financial resources to ensure ‘high-quality’ sanitation services.
