According to reports, the accident occurred near Ibrahim Hyderi in Korangi when the fast-moving dumper crushed the motorcycle as it was crossing the road.
Following the tragic incident, enraged citizens set the dumper on fire. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Jinnah Hospital. One of the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Shaukat son of Mohammad Aslam.
According to the family of the deceased, Shaukat was a welder and was working at Korangi crossing and is a father of a son. The other two young men who were with him were guests from Bahawalpur, the family said.
Upon receiving reports of the accident, a heavy police contingent arrived at the scene and attempted to disperse the angry crowd.
‘Killer’ dumpers in Karachi take five more lives
Meanwhile, the dumper driver managed to escape, and police launched a search operation to apprehend him.
An eyewitness claimed that the dumper, transporting sand, was speeding on the wrong side of the road in Karachi in broad daylight thus crushing the motorcyclists.
DEMONSTRATORS BLOCK ROAD
The residents of the area have demanded that the dumper involved in the fatal crash not be removed from the road until justice is served and the driver is arrested.
Demonstrators blocked the road and prevented a crane from towing away the dumper.
Some protesters also attempted to attack a Pink Bus Service vehicle operating on the route.
Traffic police have redirected vehicles and public transport to alternative routes to manage the situation.
Despite government claims of stricter traffic enforcement, dumper drivers continue to flout regulations.
Heavy vehicles still roam Karachi’s streets during prohibited hours, defying official orders.
On February 5, reckless dumper driving claimed five lives, including a married couple and a father-son duo.
