Kurram dispute

PESHAWAR: Following the attack on the convoy in Bagan on January 4, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif has reinstated the resolve to take strict action against those possessing illegal arms.

He said that the peace agreement remains intact, and that all its clauses will be implemented.

“Those who attacked the Deputy Commissioner will be arrested soon and brought to justice and all those who are trying to harm the peace accord will be exposed and given appropriate punishment,” he stated.

He added that the security on the highway in Kurram has been further tightened and the elders have also been asked to hand over the criminals involved in the attack as soon as possible.

The KP government on Sunday had imposed Section 144 in Kurram after an attack on the deputy commissioner which also injured six others. Deputy Commissioner Javaidullah Mehsud and others were attacked by 40 to 50 armed miscreants when they were negotiating to open the road leading to Parachinar as part of the peace agreement signed by rival parties on Wednesday.

Under Section 144, gatherings, processions and the display of weapons have been banned in the region. The KP government has announced to take strict action against those disrupting peace.
