Substandard wedding food lands over 200 people in the hospital

LAHORE: More than 200 guests suffered food poisoning after consuming substandard food at a wedding in Khayaban-e-Amin area of Lahore.

The wedding was hosted at the residence of a local citizen, Sarfaraz, with over 360 guests in attendance.

Following the meal, over 200 guests fell severely ill and were rushed to nearby hospitals in Lahore, Kasur, and Narowal. Some of them are stated to be in critical condition.

Doctors reported that the patients experienced nausea and stomach issues due to food poisoning at the wedding due to substandard food.

Taking notice of the incident, the Director General of the Punjab Food Authority ordered the closure of the marriage hall.

Authorities have collected food samples from the venue for laboratory testing.

A case has been filed against the marriage hall owners, and legal proceedings are underway, according to a Punjab Food Authority spokesperson.
