Sugar price fixed at Rs172 per kg in Islamabad

sugar price rate fixed at Rs 172 per kg in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital administration has officially fixed the price of sugar at Rs 172 per kg in Islamabad.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, the retail price of sugar has been set at Rs172 per kilogram, while the ex-mill rate is fixed at Rs165 per kilogram.

The notification clearly states that legal action will be taken against those selling sugar above the notified rates.

The DC has also directed assistant commissioners to ensure strict enforcement of the official price and take action against profiteers.

Citizens have been advised to buy sugar strictly according to the official rate list.

On Monday, the federal government and sugar industry agreed to fix the ex-mill price of sugar at Rs165 per kilogram.

At present, sugar is being sold for as much as Rs200 per kilogram in different parts of the country. Authorities have blamed the soaring prices on alleged collusion by powerful players in the sugar industry, commonly known as the “sugar mafia”, accused of hoarding and manipulating supply to drive prices up.

To tackle the crisis, the federal government earlier removed import duties on sugar temporarily in a bid to ease domestic prices.
