Suicide blast claims life of police officer in Khyber district

PESHAWAR: A police officer was martyred and another injured after a suicide bomber blew himself up within the Ali Masjid Police Station jurisdiction in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The martyred Additional SHO was identified as Adnan Afridi, while the identity of the injured police official could not be ascertained immediately.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Inspector General Ehtesham, preliminary investigation confirmed that the blast was a suicide attack.

He said that the suicide attacker attempted to enter a newly constructed mosque, but when the police carried out his body search, he detonated himself.

Police have confirmed that the suspect blew himself up during the body search.

According to sources, another person was also present with the suicide attacker, who fled the scene. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspect, police said.

Police said that the injured officer was receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
