Suicide blast near BNP sit-in in Lakpas, Akhtar Mengal, others remain unhurt

QUETTA: A suicide bomber detonated himself near the sit-in of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) in Lakpas, Quetta. However, BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other leaders remained unharmed.
According to Levies sources, no casualties were reported in the explosion, which occurred at some distance from the BNP protest site.
Sources confirmed that BNP leadership and workers remained safe.
Security officials said that rescue teams were dispatched to the site, while law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that all protest participants, including Akhtar Mengal and BNP’s political leadership, were safe.
He added that the Balochistan government had been in contact with BNP leadership since last night.
In a statement, he mentioned that BNP representatives had met with the administration the previous night, and a government delegation was scheduled to meet Sardar Akhtar Mengal today.
He assured that the inquiry results would be made public soon.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the suicide attack on Akhtar Mengal’s long march.
He expressed concern over the attack at Lakpas in Mastung and urged Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to ensure that the perpetrators behind the suicide bombing on Akhtar Mengal are brought to justice.
