WEB DESK: Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected across various regions of the country on Sunday, with Sindh and southern Punjab likely to experience the most significant weather activity.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few locations in Sindh, alongside widespread thunderstorm activity. Affected areas include Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jamshoro, Jacobabad, and Ghotki.

In southern Punjab, districts such as Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Lodhran, DG Khan, Rajanpur, and others may also see rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock could also receive light showers.
In the northeast, Islamabad and its surroundings are expected to remain partly cloudy, with a chance of rain and thunder at some locations.
Upper regions, including parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, are expected to be partly cloudy. Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms may develop at isolated locations during the evening and night. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Kohistan, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Peshawar, Kurram, and Waziristan are among those likely to be affected.
Most districts of Balochistan are expected to remain hot and dry, though isolated rain and thunderstorms may occur in Kalat, Sibi, Zhob, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and surrounding areas.
The rest of the country will likely experience hot and dry weather.
PMD WARNS OF FLOODING, LANDSLIDES AMID CONTINUED RAIN
Between September 7 and 9 (Sunday to Tuesday), the ongoing weather system is expected to bring more challenges. Low-lying areas in Hyderabad and Karachi face the risk of urban flooding due to persistent rain. In flood-affected regions of Punjab, additional rainfall could worsen the situation, PMD warned.
There is also a risk of flooding in local rivers and rain-fed streams in eastern and southern Dera Ghazi Khan and adjacent areas of Balochistan. In the northern regions, landslides may occur in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir due to unstable slopes and saturated soil.

Heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms could disrupt daily life and pose risks to vulnerable infrastructure such as makeshift homes, walls, power lines, billboards, and solar panels. Authorities have advised travelers and tourists to monitor weather updates and plan their movements accordingly to avoid hazardous situations.
