According to Bukhari, approximately 2,200 to 2,500 villages across Punjab have been affected, with more than 1.6 million people impacted particularly along the Chenab River. The floods have claimed 35 lives due to various accidents across the province.

“The simultaneous flooding of three major rivers combined with the release of water from India into Pakistan has created an unprecedented situation,” she said. Districts including Sahiwal, Multan, Jhang, Okara, and Vehari are on high alert as many areas are expected to be submerged in the next 24 to 48 hours.

She informed that the Punjab government has mobilised extensive rescue and relief operations, with field hospitals providing services to thousands of affected villages. Additionally, around 238,000 animals have been rescued and sheltered in flood camps.

Bukhari praised the efforts of Punjab’s institutions in managing the emergency, noting that prior cleaning of drains and canals has helped control the situation to some extent. She also confirmed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is personally present in the field to oversee relief efforts.
