ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to address petitions regarding the scheduling of general elections within a 90-day timeframe. The case, which has garnered significant attention, will be heard by a three-member bench, with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa presiding over the proceedings.
Justices Aminuddin Khan and Athar Minallah will also be part of the bench in the deliberations.

The hearing is scheduled to take place on October 23 and is poised to be a significant moment in the nation’s political landscape. The petitions calling for the general elections to be conducted within a 90-day window have been filed by various parties, including the Supreme Court bar and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given a tentative timeline of the elections to be in the last week of January 2024. However, that falls outside the constitutionally stipulated timeline of 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies.
In another update, the SC will also hear the petitions against the trial of civilians in military courts. Chief Justice Isa has formed a six-member bench to hear pleas, which also includes Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Aijazul Ahsan, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Ayesha Malik.
