ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s meat industry has received a major boost as Indonesia prioritises Pakistani buffalo meat over Indian beef due to its lower cost and rising global demand.
The National Food Agency of Indonesia has announced plans to import 100,000 metric tonnes of buffalo meat from Pakistan this year.
This decision is part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to import 180,000 metric tonnes of beef and 100,000 metric tonnes of buffalo meat in 2025.
Pakistan’s competitive pricing has made it the preferred supplier, marking a significant shift in Indonesia’s import policies and strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global meat market.
With India previously leading the sector, this shift is expected to significantly increase Pakistan’s meat exports, boosting foreign exchange reserves and contributing to the national economy.
As international demand for Pakistani meat continues to grow, experts predict the country will further solidify its reputation as a reliable and cost-effective global meat exporter.

Earlier in another victory, Pakistan successfully defended its ownership of Basmati rice in a global trade dispute.
India’s efforts to claim Basmati’s origin have been dismissed, as international trade experts and historians have verified that Basmati rice originates from Pakistan’s Hafizabad district.
Pakistan’s Basmati rice, known for its superior aroma, quality, and competitive pricing, has once again gained international recognition. With the EU expected to rule in Pakistan’s favor, the country is set to strengthen its foothold in the global rice market.
