Suspect arrested from Bani Gala over malicious social media propaganda

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber ​​Crime Circle has arrested a suspect over spreading ‘propaganda and derogatory content’ on social media during the Jaffar Express tragedy.

The FIA spokesperson said on Monday that the arrested accused was running a hate campaign against state institutions. He has been arrested from Bani Gala in Islamabad.

The accused shared negative propaganda and derogatory content against the institutions during the Jaffer Express incident. He was also found involved in supporting and promoting terrorist organisations on social media, the FIA spokesperson said.

The accused continued to campaign against institutions and shared inflammatory statements and content in favor of terrorists. His social media accounts and digital evidence have been seized and an investigation has been initiated.

Strict action will be taken against the accused according to the law, FIA spokesperson said.

The incident took place on Tuesday as the Jaffar Express train was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, with nearly 400 passengers aboard.

The train was halted in a tunnel at Bolan Pass, where gunmen opened fire. This resulted in the death of the train driver and injuries to several passengers. Death toll has crossed 30, according to some figures.
