BAHAWALPUR: Rising water levels and breaches in safety dams have triggered widespread flooding in several areas, wreaking havoc on communities and agricultural lands. The Sutlej River has surged to alarming heights, causing significant damage and displacement.
In Bahawalpur, the Sutlej River has reached a critical gauge of 11 feet at the Empress Bridge. A staggering rail of 140, 000 cusecs is passing through the region, leading to severe inundation in villages such as Rishishi and Subhanabad. Subhanabad, situated adjacent to the national highway, is particularly vulnerable to the river’s overflow.
Residents have been compelled to store their belongings on rooftops as floodwaters engulf their homes. Power outages have added to the challenges, leaving the affected population in dire need of assistance.
Jalalpur Pirwala is also grappling with the consequences of breached safety dams along the Sutlej River. More than 150 settlements have been submerged by floodwaters, causing extensive damage to crops, including cotton and corn. The residents in this area are in urgent need of rescue and relief measures.
Pakpattan is facing a similarly dire situation as the Sutlej River continues to swell, submerging vast expanses of land. Water has engulfed the region, creating an urgent need for a large-scale rescue operation to relocate essential goods, including livestock, to safer locations.
The affected communities are calling for immediate provision of food, medical supplies, and animal fodder to help them endure these challenging times.
