Tablets distributed for educational advancement in Punjab schools

LAHORE: In a significant stride towards advancing education in Punjab, the Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) of the School Education Department (SED) Punjab, under the auspices of the Transformation in Access Learning Equity and Education Management (TALEEM) Programme, orchestrated a ceremony for the distribution of computer tablets on Friday.

The event was funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). Among the attendees were Caretaker Provincial Education Minister Mansoor Qadir, Secretary of SED, M. Ahsan Waheed, PD PMIU, M. Farooq Rasheed, GPE Country Team Lead, Dr Hoa Tran Ringrose, and Senior Communications Specialist Chantal Rigaud.

During the ceremony, Mansoor Qadir and GPE Country Team Lead Dr Hoa Tran Ringrose took part in the distribution of tablets to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs).

The primary objective of this initiative is to introduce state-of-the-art tablets to approximately 33,000 primary schools across Punjab, thereby facilitating teachers continuous professional development (CPD).

These tablets will provide online access to a diverse range of teaching and learning materials, benefiting both students and teachers.

This distribution of tablets signifies a historic milestone for Punjab, promising a transformative impact on the education system in the region.

Aligned with the broader objectives of the TALEEM Programme, this initiative aims to enhance access and learning at the primary and middle levels, champion equity and inclusive education, introduce digital advancements through the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), and foster a mindset change through effective communication.

The tablet distribution ceremony stands as a testament to the commitment of the stakeholders involved, reflecting their dedication to reshaping the educational landscape in Punjab.

As the tablets find their way into the hands of educators and students alike, the TALEEM Programme takes a step closer to realising its vision of a more accessible, equitable, and technologically advanced education system in the province.
