ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a 10-member joint task force (JTF) to track down individuals spreading anti-state propaganda.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, certain elements have launched a coordinated campaign against state institutions, particularly the armed forces.
Following recent acts of terrorism and vandalism, a deliberate campaign is being run to discredit the state and its security apparatus,” the statement read.
It further claimed that both domestic and foreign media platforms are disseminating false and provocative content to accuse the state of severe human rights violations.
“Perpetrators have used fabricated images and content to portray fictitious incidents, seeking to mislead foreign audiences and undermine Pakistan’s stability,” it added.
To tackle such elements, a 10-member task force has been formed, headed by the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and consisting of ISI and MI representatives, the IB joint director, the joint secretary for interior, the joint secretary for the information ministry, the FIA cyber wing director, and the IT Ministry’s IT director.
OBJECTIVES AND TIMELINE
The JTF will identify individuals, groups, or organizations behind the dissemination of fake news related to political unrest in Islamabad between November 24 and 27. It will focus on tracing those operating within Pakistan and abroad.
The committee will recommend legal action against offenders and propose measures to address policy loopholes. It has been directed to submit its findings within 10 days and ensure timely accountability.
This move comes amid growing concerns over misinformation and its impact on Pakistan’s law and order situation.
