Terrorism takes toll in KP: over 1,400 casualties this year

PESHAWAR: The recently released report on terrorism-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) this year paints a grim picture, with a staggering total of 1,404 people falling victim to violence, either losing their lives or sustaining injuries.

According to the report, a total of 408 individuals lost their lives in the province due to terrorism, while 986 others were injured. Among the casualties, 174 police personnel sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, and 401 were reported injured.

Breaking down the numbers further, the annexed districts around Peshawar bore a significant brunt, with 560 people martyred and injured, while the annexed districts reported 844 injuries. In the Peshawar region alone, 397 individuals were targeted by terrorist activities, with an additional 107 in Khyber and Mohmand.

The districts of DI Khan witnessed 212 people becoming victims of terrorism, while 87 suffered in South Waziristan and FR Tank combined. The security forces also faced considerable losses, with 51 soldiers martyred and 124 injured in the line of duty.

The civilian population in Peshawar was not spared either, as 144 civilians lost their lives, and 311 others sustained injuries during the course of the year.

Specifically highlighting the sacrifices made by the security forces, the report outlined that 31 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were martyred, and 111 were injured. Additionally, 10 officials from law enforcement agencies lost their lives, with 39 others reported injured in the line of duty.

The alarming statistics underscore the persistent threat of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting heightened concerns and calls for strengthened security measures to protect the lives of civilians and those serving in law enforcement agencies.
