Thar Desert Train Safari launches today

KARACHI: The Sindh government launched the Thar Desert Train Safari on Saturday, a two-day trip that takes passengers to the Indi-Pak border from Karachi.
Day one of the trip will begin when the train departs from Cantt. Station at around 10 AM. As the train passes through Hyderabad and Mir Purkhas, passengers will see the beauty of Sindh’s desert vistas. After arriving at Chhor, a town in the Umerkot District, at around 5PM, passengers can then expect to enjoy an evening of camping with sunset views, a bonfire, and music, before they end with a dinner at Parchi Jeveri.
On Day two, the train will depart from Chhor at 7 AM, and will soon arrive at Khokhrapar Zero Point. Kokhrapar is a border town in the Tharparkar District. Passengers will be able to see all the incredible views of the district after they have breakfast. The sightseeing will end at 11 AM, and the train will begin heading back to Karachi Cantt. Station, and should arrive around 6 PM.

The exact route that will be taken is as follows: Karachi – Hyderabad – Mir Purkhas – Chhot – Khokhrapar Zero Point.
The train is comprised of two business class bogies with a total capacity for 108 passengers, as well as a dining car, and a power van.
The Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Zulfiqar Ali Shah inaugurated the train on Saturday. Passengers were charged no fare for first ever trip, and all seats have already been booked.
“Excellent arrangements have been made for tourists in Chhor,” said the minister, adding that “tourism is being promoted in Sindh.”
The Safari will cost 30,000 rupees per adult.
