Pak-Afghan border operation
Just days ago, security forces had neutralised 14 Indian-backed militants during a clearance operation along the Pak-Afghan border, according to the media and public relations wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces (ISPR).
Nine Khawarij killed in Upper Dir operation
The operation was carried out in the Sambaza area overnight between August 8 and 9. Troops also recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the slain militants.
Soldiers martyred
These successful clearance operations are not without sacrifices. Last week, an army major was martyred along with two soldiers when terrorists belonging to Fitna al Hindustan, targeted a security forces’ vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mastung district.
The ISPR said that the attack was carried out on the night between August 5 and 6. The soldiers who embraced martyrdom include Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir (31), a resident of Narowal, Naik Ibni Amin (37), hailing from Swabi, and Lance Naik Muhammad Younas (33), from Karak district.

Following the attack, security forces launched a sanitisation operation in the area. During the clearance operation, four terrorists linked to the same network were killed. The soldiers who embraced martyrdom include Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir (31), a resident of Narowal, Naik Ibni Amin (37), hailing from Swabi, and Lance Naik Muhammad Younas (33), from Karak district.
US designates Majeed Brigade as a terrorist organisation
The US has added the Majeed Brigade to its list of proscribed organisations, designating it as an alias of the already sanctioned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the move, noting the BLA’s history of attacks, including recent incidents in Karachi, Gwadar, and the 2025 Jaffar Express hijacking that killed 31 people. The BLA was first designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group in 2019. Rubio stressed the Trump administration’s commitment to counterterrorism. The decision, coinciding with Pakistan’s army chief’s US visit, is seen as supporting Islamabad’s stance against Indian-backed terrorism in Pakistan.
