Three main water pumpimg stations shutdown in Karachi

KARACHI: A massive power breakdown has hit the three main pumping stations in Karachi, cutting the city’s water supply by 200 million gallons, officials said.

A cable fault had impacted power supply to feeders at Dhabeji, Pipri, and Hub pumping stations, worsening the water shortage, according to a K-Electric spokesperson.

Areas affected include Port Qasim, Bin Qasim Town, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal Town, Liaquatabad Town, and Chanesar Town. PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, and Karsaz were also expected to face water shortages, along with parts of Nazimabad and New Karachi.

THIRD DAY WITHOUT POWER

Power supply remained suspended in several parts of Karachi for over 48 hours despite heavy rains stopping two days ago, leaving citizens frustrated and angry.

Protesters demanded immediate restoration of electricity, saying their daily lives had come to a standstill.

The city was hit by torrential rains starting Monday night, with heavy downpours on Tuesday prompting K-Electric to shut down power in multiple areas as a safety measure.

However, three days later, electricity in several localities remains unrestored.

The prolonged outage has sparked outrage among residents, who accused K-Electric of failing to act promptly.
