Toll tax on M2 motorway increased by 10 per cent

ISLAMABAD: The toll tax rates for the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2) have been increased by 10 percent, applicable from Monday (today).

The toll tax on the M2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway has been increased by Rs 110, now a standard vehicle travelling from Lahore to Islamabad will pay Rs 1210 instead of Rs 100.

While commercial vehicles, including vans, trailers, and trucks, have seen an even steeper increase, with tolls rising by up to Rs600.

Specifically, the toll for a van travelling between Lahore and Islamabad has been set at Rs2030, while the toll for a coaster has jumped from Rs2240 to Rs2840.

As per the new tax amounts announced by the authorities for heavy vehicles, bus tolls are now Rs4060, trucks Rs5280, and trailers Rs6780.

The increase is part of an annual 10 per cent hike as per the contract agreement with M/s Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited (a subsidiary owned by FWO) on 23rd April 2014 for the overlay and modernization of Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2) on BOT basis for a period of 20 years and in accordance with that, escalation at 10 percent in toll rates will be implemented from 2nd operational year.

A spokesperson for the Motorway Authority stated that the new toll rates have been implemented across all interchanges on the M2 Motorway.
