TORKHAM: Officials in Nangarhar province announced the reopening of the Torkham crossing to passenger traffic after four days, The Khaama Press news agency reported.

Pak-Afghan Torkham border crossing shut for traffic

The Taliban Commission at the Torkham Crossing stated on Monday that the Torkham Crossing, temporarily closed to passengers and patients last Saturday, has been reopened.

The Torkham crossing was closed last Friday due to the three-day relocation of Pakistani border offices to a new building.

It should be noted that only freight vehicles were allowed to pass during these three days.

Meanwhile, there have been recent clashes between Taliban and Pakistani forces that have led to heavy destruction in the Dand-e-Patan district, with shops in the market and residential houses being damaged during intense fighting on Friday night, the press agency report said.

Reports indicate that at least five Taliban members and three civilians have been killed in the clashes so far.

The clashes erupted reportedly due to the construction of a checkpoint by Pakistani forces at the zero point. However, official comments from both sides are yet to be made regarding the primary cause of the confrontation.
