Tourists flock to Murree during Eid holidays

Murree Eid holidays

ISLAMABAD: The popular hill station of Punjab, Murree, witnessed a massive influx of tourists during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, particularly the second day of Eid.

Thousands of visitors from different parts of the country, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and even Lahore, travelled to the scenic destination to celebrate the festive occasion.

This year, the government announced three Eid holidays (March 21-April 1), giving people a chance to enjoy leisure time with their families.

On the first day of Eid, most citizens remained engaged in family gatherings, while on the second and third holidays, they rushed towards Murree and other recreational spots.

Bhurban, Ayubia, Mall Road, Kashmir Point, and Pindi Point remained packed with tourists. Visitors also explored nearby Galiyat regions, including Nathiagali and the Hazara belt. However, the massive rush caused long traffic queues, with Satra Meel Toll Plaza on Murree Road becoming a bottleneck.

To manage the increased traffic flow, City Traffic Police Murree implemented a comprehensive traffic plan. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mughis Ahmad Hashmi stated that over 200 traffic wardens were deployed to guide tourists and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Eid festivities continue as families flock to parks

According to the CTO, all major roads remain open, and traffic is moving as per routine. However, motorcyclists without helmets are not allowed to enter the hill station.

The administration has designated five traffic management sectors and introduced one-way traffic on key roads, including Viewforth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Ridge Bell Road. Meanwhile, Mall Road remains closed to all vehicles.

Tourists have been advised to park only in designated parking areas to avoid congestion. The traffic police have also provided a helpline (051-9269200) for assistance and guidance.
