Three policemen arrested for allegedly looting tourists

GILGIT: The Gilgit police have arrested three policemen for allegedly robbing a group of tourists from Karachi, depriving them of cash and valuables.

According to an FIR application submitted at Cantt Police Station in Gilgit, the victims had travelled to the city to visit relatives. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM on Tuesday when they boarded a car from the Jutial bus stand. As they reached Kalma Chowk in Kashrote, two uniformed policemen, armed with AK-47 rifles, stopped their vehicle.

The tourists alleged that the policemen, who were on duty at the time, initially searched their car and let the driver go. However, they were detained and taken to various locations, including a market near a local hotel, where they were subjected to multiple searches.

During the ordeal, the policemen allegedly took Rs50,000 from them, while an additional Rs60,000 was reportedly found in their possession. The victims were later confined in a room before being released near a hospital.

The victims claimed that a motorcycle, which was parked near a roadside hotel, was handed over to another uniformed individual involved in the incident.

Taking notice of the complaint, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilgit-Baltistan, Afzal Mehmood Butt, ordered action against the suspects.

Three policemen, identified as FC Arsalan, FC Afsar Jan, and FC Zahid Hussain, were arrested. Gilgit Police said that they have initiated an investigation into the incident.
