MURREE: Tourists have started rushing to the scenic valley of Murree on Saturday, as snowfall continued after a prolonged dry spell.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) rain and snowfall will continue in Murree for the next 24 hours.

A PDMA spokesperson reported that 2.5 inches of snow had been recorded since last night and temperatures have dropped below freezing point.

Snowfall also continues at regular intervals at Thandiani, Nathiagali, Kheragali, Meerajani and Ayubia. According to GDA, more than five inches of snowfall have been recorded in Ayubia.

Due to the weather conditions, traffic flow on the roads may be affected, and to prevent disruptions, local authorities are spreading salt on the roads, the PDMA said.

PDMA Director General has instructed the Murree administration to remain on high alert and ensure no negligence in maintaining public safety. He emphasised the importance of keeping roads clear for smooth traffic flow.

To assist tourists, 13 facilitation centres have been set up across Murree. Visitors are advised to check weather conditions before travelling.

All relevant institutions are actively working to serve the public, and citizens are urged to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel. In case of emergency, people can contact PDMA’s helpline at 1129.

Snowfall in Murree usually starts in the last week of December, attracting tourists from all over Pakistan.

However, this year, the lack of consistent snowfall has led to a noticeable drop in tourist numbers. Over the past two weeks, only light snowfall has been recorded, bringing in fewer visitors compared to the usual lively crowds.
