Trump suggests Pakistan, India to resolve their “issues” themselves

Donald Trump

WASHINGTON: United States (US) President, Donald Trump, recently addressed the ongoing tensions between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India during a media briefing aboard the Air Force One.

The US president stated, “I know the leaders of Pakistan and India well”, and expressed confidence that the two countries could manage their issues independently.

“Pakistan and India will take care of their own problem one way or another”.

His remarks come in the wake of a terrorist attack in the Indian-illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir that has heightened tensions in the region.

On April 22, a mass shooting in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, resulted in the deaths of 26 men.

The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack. The group stated that the motive was to resist what they described as demographic changes in the Kashmir Valley, particularly the settlement of non-Kashmiris.

India was quick to point fingers at Pakistan, despite a lack of concrete evidence linking Pakistan to the incident. It also announced to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, a move that has been seen as an act of war by Islamabad.

The longstanding conflict between the two nations over the region has already led to two wars fought over it.
