ISLAMABAD: The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, along with surrounding areas, received heavy rain with thunderstorms on Wednesday evening.

The downpour provided much-needed respite to residents as temperatures dropped significantly.

The Met Office had forecasted rain for the twin cities and surrounding areas, including Kahuta.

While many streets were flooded, leaving commuters stranded, youngsters took to the streets to enjoy the weather.

Markets in Islamabad and Rawalpindi also saw an increased footfall in the evening as the weather turned pleasant.

The brief yet intense and persistent rain also led to traffic congestion in Rawalpindi.

Many motorcyclists were caught off guard by the sudden shower as of them some sought shelter under bridges, trees, and in markets, while others continued their rides undeterred by the rain.

The twin cities experienced minimal rainfall during winter before a heavy downpour in the final days of February.

Islamabad’s dams had nearly dried up, raising concerns about potential water shortages in the twin cities.

Since the cities rely on these dams for water supply, reduced rainfall often leads to scarcity.

However, the much-needed rain has helped replenish the reservoirs.
