Two health workers, two kids among seven martyred in DI Khan: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: At least two health workers, two children, and two soldiers were martyred after terrorists attacked a health center in Kirri Shamozai, Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “On the night of 15/16 July 2024, terrorists carried out a cowardly attack on the Rural Health Centre (RHC) in Kirri Shamozai, Dera Ismail Khan district, and opened indiscriminate fire on RHC staff. As a result, five innocent civilians, including two lady health workers, two children, and one watchman, embraced Shahadat. Security forces in the vicinity were immediately mobilised for a clearance operation at the RHC. In the ensuing exchange of fire, troops effectively engaged the terrorists, resulting in three terrorists being eliminated. However, during the intense fire exchange, Naib Subedar Muhammad Farooq (44), a resident of district Narowal) and Sepoy Muhammad Javed Iqbal (23), a resident of district Khanewal) paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat.”

It said that “sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any remaining terrorists. The perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act targeting innocent civilians, especially women and children, will be brought to justice.”

Earlier in the early hours of Monday morning, a group of 10 terrorists attacked Bannu Cantonment but it was successfully thwarted by the security forces.

At least eight security personnel were martyred and 10 terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire.

According to the ISPR, this heinous act of terrorism was carried out by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, which operates from Afghanistan. This group has previously used Afghan soil for terrorist activities in Pakistan.

The ISPR stated that the interim government of Afghanistan should take effective action against such elements. The armed forces of Pakistan will take all necessary measures against these threats originating from Afghanistan and will continue to fight against terrorism and defend the people of Pakistan.
