UNGA79: PM Shehbaz engages with business leaders, Iranian president

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a series of important meetings on the sidelines of the 79th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday.
Shehbaz met with the The American Business Council of Pakistan, where detailed discussions were conducted regarding strategies to promote investment and business growth in Pakistan.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that there was a need for Pakistani bankers in the United States (US) to invest back home.
The business delegation included several high profile bankers and investors. The meeting provided a platform for briefing attendees on the current economic landscape and investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Shehbaz noted that several new laws were being introduced in the country to entice the investors. He also asserted that Pakistan’s economy was “improving”.
The PM also met with the Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian. The two leaders reviewed the bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan, with an agreement for increasing and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.
The PM in particular talked about increasing bilateral trade and cultural connections with Iran.

During the meeting, Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s stance on Palestine-Israel issue. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to to the ongoing Israeli brutality against Palestine and Lebanon.
