Unidentified individuals poison 10 horses to death in Gujrat

GUJRAT: At least 10 horses died after unidentified individuals poisoned 22 horses at a property in Sheikh Ata, a village in the Gujrat district of Punjab.
The majority of the population in the village, known as “Mini Norway”, is settled in European countries such as Norway, Denmark, and Spain.
However, foreign-based individuals from the village have a strong desire to maintain their connection to Pakistan and their roots.
As a result, they have built stables on their properties and raise animals there to maintain their bond with the soil.
One such individual, Chaudhry Hamid Akhtar, and his three brothers who reside and run business in Spain, keep a large number of animals in Sheikh Ata, and their relatives take care of them.
According to Urdu News, on Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred when some unidentified people fed poisonous substances to the animals. As a result, 10 horses lost their lives, while the remaining horses were still in critical condition due to the toxic effects.
The incident has caused grief among the locals are expressing their sympathies to Chaudhry Hamid Akhtar and his family.

Chaudhry Hamid Akhtar, speaking about the incident, said, “We are three brothers, and we all reside abroad. However, we have a keen interest in raising animals in our homeland. We often visit and spend our holidays with the animals. This also serves as an investment in our country.”
He explained that the animals were kept in a stable, consisting of 22 horses and mares, while the cows and buffaloes were left to graze outside.
The horses were in the stable, and some cows had been sent out for grazing. Unfortunately, the horses in the stable were exposed to some extremely poisonous substance, causing ten of them to die, and the condition of the remaining horses is also delicate.
Chaudhry Hamid Akhtar said, “We do not suspect anyone, but the act seems to be the work of someone from the village. However, we are not accusing anyone at the moment.”
He further added that they immediately informed the police about the incident, and the police prepared an initial report. The postmortem examination of the animals has also been conducted, and the detailed report will be available later.
Chaudhry Hamid Akhtar emphasized that they would thoroughly investigate the incident. If needed, they would seek help from higher authorities to bring the culprits to justice. He reiterated that they raised the animals with great care and affection.
