LAHORE: In an official notification issued on Monday, the School Education Department of the Punjab government has granted permission for students to wear “any warm clothing, sweaters, jackets, caps, etc., along with any shoes for protection against the cold weather.”
This proactive move is aimed at safeguarding the well-being of students attending primary schools in Punjab during the chilly season.
Despite a surge in public demand and widespread expectations for the extension of holidays in educational institutes, the government remains steadfast in its decision to resume regular activities in both private and government schools on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
This decision encompasses various cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, Kasur, Gujrat, etc.
While the allowance for any clothing may not appear groundbreaking, it brings a sense of relief to parents and students alike.
Previously, students were permitted to wear warm attire, but the latest notification reinforces the importance of protecting children from the harsh winter conditions and preventing illness.
The current weather conditions in Punjab, marked by persistent smog and fog, pose challenges to daily life. Lahore, in particular, experiences nightly and early morning fog, making local and inter-city travel inconvenient.
This environmental concern adds another layer of significance to the government’s decision, underscoring the need for practical measures to ensure the health and well-being of students in the province.
