PESHAWAR: In a startling revelation, security sources in Peshawar have disclosed that a significant number of Afghan nationals are deeply embedded in the business landscape, with 22 prominent Afghan businessmen holding Pakistani identity cards.

A further investigation reveals a complex web of unregistered Afghan traders engaging in diverse businesses throughout the city and its suburbs.

According to security reports, 56 unregistered Afghan nationals are actively involved in sizable enterprises within Peshawar, spanning industries such as cosmetics, carpets, juice shops, libraries, hotels, real estate, hawala handi, and the tea business.

The extent of their influence is magnified by the fact that 31 Afghan businessmen are allegedly running businesses under the guise of Pakistani citizens, as documented by official records.

This unregistered Afghan business network extends beyond Peshawar, with numerous illegal Afghan entrepreneurs conducting business operations in other cities across the country and even internationally in Dubai.

Their reach is particularly alarming as they form partnerships with Pakistani businessmen in leading companies, raising questions about the extent of their influence and the potential legal ramifications.

The emerging scenario also underscores the need for a comprehensive reassessment of business registration processes and cross-border partnerships to prevent potential security and economic risks.

As investigations continue, the collaboration between Pakistani and Afghan businessmen in various sectors comes under scrutiny, shedding light on the complex dynamics that have fueled this under-the-radar network.
