UNSC appointments acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism, says PM

An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was convened early on Friday at the request of Iran, as the Israel-Iran tensions sizzle.

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Pakistan was appointed as the vice chair of the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) Counter-Terrorism Committee on Wednesday. Pakistan has also been elected as the Co-Chairman of the Working Group on Documents and Sanctions.

These appointments are proof that the world is acknowledging Pakistan’s fight against terrorism. They also highlight international trust in Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and security.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar both welcomed the country’s election to pivotal positions. PM Sharif expressed immense pride in these appointments, saying that these responsibilities reflect the international community’s recognition of Pakistan’s unwavering stance against terrorism.

He said, “These appointments are not only a source of pride for Pakistan but also a testament to the sacrifices the nation has made in the war on terror.”

He highlighted that Pakistan has lost more than 90,000 lives and incurred over $150 billion in financial losses due to terrorism. “Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts to eliminate terrorism are unparalleled,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also noted that these roles come as a direct recognition of Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism. He said that this is a direct reflection of the international community’s trust in Pakistan’s leadership on the counter-terrorism front.

Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to tackle all forms of terrorism.
