US ambassador, finance minister discuss IMF programme

ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador Donald Blome met with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to discuss the IMF programme, sources confirmed.
The meeting primarily focused on the ongoing loan programme between Pakistan and the IMF, with particular attention to the completion of the current stand-by arrangement.
Issues related to US cooperation for economic reforms in Pakistan were also on the agenda, with both parties expressing determination to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The finance minister briefed the US ambassador on the progress of negotiations with the IMF.
Simultaneously, economic review negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF concluded, showing progress in the final review under the stand-by arrangement.
Sources suggested that if negotiations remain successful, Pakistan stands to receive the last installment of $1.1 billion under the stand-by arrangement.
Furthermore, there is anticipation that the IMF will issue a statement regarding the negotiations in the coming hours.
Following the completion of the current programme, Pakistan aims to pursue a new four-year programme with the IMF, potentially worth $7.5 billion.
