US Embassy delegation visits ancient Buddhist site in Khanpur

KHANPUR: A high-level delegation from the US Embassy visited the ancient Buddhist archaeological site of Julian Stupa in Khanpur on Saturday, praising Pakistan’s efforts to preserve its cultural heritage.
The delegation, welcomed by Regional Archaeology Officer Syed Niaz Hussain Shah, conducted a detailed inspection of the 2,000-year-old Buddhist monument. They described the site as an “invaluable cultural treasure” and commended the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Archaeology Department for its conservation work.

“These preservation and restoration efforts not only protect religious worship sites but also promote religious tourism,” the delegation stated. They emphasised that such initiatives could boost international tourist interest, foster interfaith harmony, and strengthen the local economy.

The US officials also discussed potential cultural cooperation with the provincial government before concluding their visit and returning to Islamabad.
