US maintains neutrality amid Indian admission of extra-judicial killings in Pakistan


WASHINGTON: The United States (US) Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the US will not interfere in Indian admission of extra-judicially killing Pakistanis on Sunday.

During a press briefing in Washington, Miller stated that the US will not “get in the middle of this situation”, when asked about recent claims by Indian government that they “assassinated dozens of individuals in Pakistan”.

Meanwhile the Indian Defense Minister openly “appeared to confirm that the Indian government has carried out extra judicial killings in Pakistan”.

The spokesperson stated that the United States has been following the situation via media. “We have been following the media reports about this issue”, however, his government did not “have any comment on the underlining allegation”.

Miller went on to say that “of course, we are not going to get in middle of this situation”. He called for a resolution to the conflict via talks. “We encourage both sides to avoid escalation and find a resolution through dialogue,” he declared.

Miller was asked to share some details regarding the telephonic conversation between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister (FM) Ishaq Dar on Friday.

The spokesperson confirmed the telephonic conversation, stating that the conversation between the officials centred around ‘endorsing’ the enduring partnership between the US and Pakistan.

“The Secretary [Blinken] did speak with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan on Friday to reaffirm our robust partnership which advances the prosperity of Pakistan and the United States”, he said.

Miller stated that the partnership between the two countries will advance the prosperity and security of both. He said that during the call, Blinken and Dar discussed various points, including the necessity of continued cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, expanding trade and investment partnerships, and advancing women’s economic security,
