LAHORE: Officials from US Consul General Lahore met with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activist Khadija Shah, who was arrested following the May 9 riots, in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
According to prison sources, the meeting lasted for about an hour, during which legal matters relating to her release were discussed.
The interior ministry granted the US Consul General access to meet Shah in prison because of her Pak-US dual citizenship.
Shah, who is a well-known fashion designer and the daughter of former finance minister Salman Shah, surrendered herself to Lahore’s Iqbal Town police station on May 23.
She was accused of inciting violence and being involved in the attack on the Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) in Lahore, during the violent May 9 riots.
Earlier in June, her lawyer told the media that “no significant evidence” against her was found by police, and her case remained pending in the Lahore High Court for adjudication.
