“US sanctions unjustified”, PM defends Pakistan’s security apparatus

ISLAMABAD: “There is no justification for the sanctions imposed on Pakistan,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during the federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday. “Pakistan will continue to take strong measures to defend itself,” he said.
The premier said that Pakistan will not compromise on its nuclear program, which is “dear to the people of Pakistan”. He said that Pakistan’s defense system is not for aggression, but for defense. “There is no justification for the National Defense Complex and other restrictions,” the Prime Minister said.

During the meeting, the premier also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the security forces. He said that the incidents of terrorism have increased in the past few months. He said that the government is taking steps for the betterment of the country. “The government is taking steps against terrorism together with the provinces,” the premier said.
Speaking on the situation in Kurram, Parachinar, the prime minister said, “The incidents happening in Kurram are remorseful,” the PM said, adding, “We will not allow nefarious conspiracies against Pakistan to succeed”.
Shehbaz Sharif said that economic development is not possible without ending terrorism. “Pakistan is facing various challenges including terrorism. We will not rest until terrorism has been completely eliminated”.
Speaking on the country’s economic integration in the region, PM Sharif said that Pakistan is building a relationship with Bangladesh. PM informed the meeting that he had a fruitful discussion with Bangladesh government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Cairo.

Trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh has also increased, the Prime Minister said.
Speaking at the political situation at home, the premier said that negotiations are taking place between the government and the opposition parties. “It is hoped that the parties will take decisions in the best interest of Pakistan,” he said, adding, “If decisions are taken in the interest of Pakistan, more economic stability will come.”
